Why I Ride:
I ride in honor. I ride to grieve. I ride as a cancer dad. I ride to be part of something bigger than our loss. I ride for families currently on the childhood cancer journey. I ride because pediatric cancer research is grossly underfunded. I ride for the children who no longer can ride. I ride to empower awareness.
On November 3, 2016, our family learned that our beautiful daughter Ava had a cancerous brain tumor called DIPG. We were told the devastating prognosis and essentially were told to go home and make memories. Ava inspired a community with her spunky and spirited disposition for the 6 months and ten days of her pediatric cancer journey. I ride because pediatric cancer is NOT rare and wreaks havoc on children and their families while we offer such little hope and viable treatment. I ride to breed hope.
I ride as Ava Warriors' major fundraising effort for 2021. I ride in full and complete support of Cal’s Angles and the amazing and efficient work they do for families like ours. I ride as a second year WOW rider. This year is a bit more than our 24 hour 225-mile ride of WOW II.
This year, WOW -III is starting at Mt. Rushmore and the riders will be riding to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and then to Cal's Angels' office in St. Charles, IL. Over 1200 miles in 14 days averaging 80 miles per day and including 5 -100 mile days. I am fortunate enough to ride the last 8 days from Platte, SD to Home.
My goal is to raise $50.00 per mile we ride. I need your help to reach this goal and with your support, we will raise $60,000 to fund pediatric cancer research.
Thank you for your moral and financial support. I ride to honor your contribution.
